After being announced as New GDDR7 memory supplier For Nvidia’s RTX 50 line, SK Hynix shows that it is ready to rival Samsung as a partner.

A chiphell forum user revealed impressive results by testing a Gigabyte 5070 Ti video card equipped with SK Hynix modules, reaching the 34 GBPs mark in Overclock.

In the tests performed, the Memory clock reached 2,125 MHzequivalent to 34 Gbps of bandwidth, which is comparable to the best results obtained with Samsung chips.

Despite the absence of detailed data on energy efficiency and temperatures during overclocking, the performance obtained is already considered a major breakthrough for SK Hynix.

Initial results show that SK Hynix’s GDDR7 modules have similar potential for overclocking Samsung chips, increasing diversity and competitiveness in the market

BIOS compatibility problems

During the tests, there was a setback: When trying to increase the power limit of the plate, the user tried to flashed one BIOS from another version (Aorus Master, designed for Samsung memory), which caused the device failure. Fortunately, the plate had double BIOS, allowing rapid recovery without permanent damage.

This incident shows the suspicion that RTX 50 plates bios are dependent on the memory manufacturer, ie a firmware for Samsung modules may not be compatible with plates equipped with SK Hynix or Micron memory.

Validated memories, but overclock is still a lottery

Despite Nvidia’s rigorous certification to ensure that all memories operate stablely in basic clocks (28 Gbps for RTX 5070 Ti and 30 Gbps for RTX 5080), small differences between manufacturers persist.

Overclockers should consider that the margin of increase, voltage requirements and thermal efficiency may still vary between SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron.

The great fact is that the addition of SK Hynix as a solid GDDR7 supplier expands competition in the market and should benefit consumers with more options and potentially more affordable prices.

However, it is recommended to wait for further analyzes on thermal behavior and energy consumption before nailing a definitive verdict.
