SK hynix says all its capacity for DRAM, NAND and HBM in 2026 is already exhausted

SK hynix, currently the world’s largest memory manufacturer, states that its production capacity for DRAM, NAND and HBM memories is already exhausted for 2026, due to so many orders it has received from its customers. Unsurprisingly, the accumulation of so many contracts is attributed to AI hype.

HBM orders are one of the current main sources of income for SK hynix. The company reports that it had a record profit in the last quarter, with 11.4 trillion Korean won (R$42.8 billion) – an increase of 62% compared to last year. The increase in income was 39%, to 22.4 trillion won (R$84 billion).

All this demand for HBM is due to the fact that the components are preferred by AI accelerator manufacturers. In the segment, SK hynix dominates more than half of the global market, according to information from TrendForce. Its main rival, Samsung, would only have a little more than a quarter of the market.

“The demand for HBM continues to grow rapidly, so it will be difficult for supply to catch up in the near future,” said Kim Ki-tae, sales and marketing division leader for this type of memory at SK hynix.

Exhaustion of manufacturers like SK hynix boosts memory prices

SK hynix’s statement comes in the same week that we received information that some of the largest data center companies in the world are unable to have their memory orders fulfilled, due to high market demand and insufficient supply.

The result of this, obviously, is an increase in the price of DRAM components, used both in the manufacture of HBM and DDR5 modules used in home PCs.
