ASUS, through the general manager of the Chinese division, Tony Yu, this week demonstrated an innovative application for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X processor, which was passively cooled using a Noctua cooler in a ProArt chassis.
The feat challenges traditional cooling methods for high-performance CPUs, presenting alternative solutions to reduce noise and dissipate heat efficiently.
During testing, the Ryzen 9 9950X was operated with a TDP set to 220W, demonstrating temperatures that reached peaks of 95.2°C. Despite seeming loud, Noctua’s passive cooler managed to keep the system stable, without any type of active ventilation.
With this setup, the CPU achieved 42,451 points in Cinebench R23 in multi-core, drawing attention for its performance capacity even in adverse cooling conditions.
This feat reinforces the excellent thermal efficiency of the chip and highlights the optimization possibilities for applications that demand absolute silence, such as audio studios and minimalist home environments.
This is not the first time that the Ryzen 9 9950X has demonstrated its versatility in extreme scenarios. In recent benchmarks, like our review here at Adrenaline, the CPU has proven its ability to handle heavy workloads with thermal efficiency and high performance.
Additionally, the new 9950X3D and 9900X3D are rumored to utilize 3D V-Cache technology on just one CCD. If proven, the approach could offer a balance between performance and thermal management, expanding the possibilities for passive solutions in the future.
I don’t find two rankings
Another relevant news in recent months was the performance of the CPU in configurations with domestic water cooling. At the time, the result placed the processor in fifth place in 3DMark, showing its ability to adapt to different cooling methods, whether passive or active.
The experiment with the Noctua cooler shows the Ryzen 9 9950X’s ability to exceed expectations even months after its launch, delivering cutting-edge performance in a silent and functional system.
As technologies like 3D V-Cache continue to evolve, the high-end processor market promises even more amazing innovations.
