Sandisk revealed this week the WD Black SN8100, its newest high performance SSD NVME compatible with the PCIE Gen 5.0 interface. The manufacturer promises reading speeds of up to 14.900MB/s, with up to 14,000MB/s for recording, calling its latest drive “the fastest in the world”.
This is not the first time we see an SSD reach 14.900mb/s, however. Chinese manufacturer Unis launched at the end of March a drive promising to reach this same sequential reading speed. But it is in random performance that the WD Black SN8100 stands out, and theoretically stands ahead of the competition.

According to information from Sandisk, its new SSD PCIE Gen 5.0 reaches up to 2,300k of random reading IOPs, with recording beating the same number. By comparison, UNIS SSD is below 2,000k in both cases.
The Kingston Renegade G5 and the Samsung 9100 Pro offer closest competition in random performance, which is especially important in games. The Kingston solution reaches 2,200k of IOPs in both reading and recording, while the Samsung drive is also 2,200k of reading IOPs and reaches 2,600k of recording IOPs, surpassing the SN8100. These two drives, however, reach 14,800mb/s in sequential reading.

Sandisk WD Black SN8100 skills and prices
It is important to note that the most advanced performance is promised by Sandisk for the most advanced variant of its new SSD, the 4TB model. The drive also has 2TB and 1TB variants, and the lower capacity version reaches “only” 11,000mb/s.

The new drives are now available on Sandisk’s official US website. The suggested prices are as follows:

- 2TB: US$ 280 (R$ 1.571)
- 4TB: US$ 550 (R$ 3.086)
SSDs already available do not come with Heatsink, but the manufacturer has already confirmed that they will have versions with dissipping at some point later. Each storage option is $ 20 more expensive with Heatsink. Also, we should see an 8TB WD Black SN8100 until the end of the year.
