Samsung would have increased the price of its memories by 60% because of the shortage

Samsung increased the price of its memory chips for component manufacturing by 60% this November. This is what Reuters sources report, adding that the jump in value was seen after the company “delayed” an official price adjustment announcement in October. Normally the South Korean company informs the prices of its memories every month.

With this delay in October, we had the contract price for Samsung 32GB DDR5 memory modules jumping from US$149 in September to US$239 in November, according to unofficial information. And the reason is the same one that has caused prices to increase in memory chips throughout the year: immense demand for the components due to the AI ​​hype.

“Manufacturers are now accepting that they will not get anywhere near enough products. The higher-than-normal amounts being paid are extreme,” said Tobey Gonnerman, president of semiconductor distributor Fusion Worldwide, speaking to Reuters.

Samsung would also have increased the prices of 16GB and 128GB DDR5 modules by 50%. The values ​​would now have reached US$135 and US$1,194, respectively. The module with the smallest increase would have been the 64GB one, but it still had an increase of more than 30%.

Samsung increases should reach end consumers

Samsung is one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world, and its chips appear not only in data centers and advanced servers for industrial AI processing, but also in cell phones, notebooks, etc.
