Samsung would be considering fusing its semiconductor divisions to “save” System LSI, its company specializing in chip research and development. The information is not yet official, but come directly from South Korea, Samsung homeland.
A Sedaily report states that Samsung’s top echelon has recently held a meeting where he discussed what to do with System LSI, which has not had financial success in recent years. Among the possibilities raised, apparently the most popular solution is to unite System LSI with the company’s Foundry division.

From a structural point of view it is a decision that would make sense. System LSI was once part of Samsung Foundry, but in 2017 it became an independent division, while Foundry sought to work with more outsourced customers to manufacture their processors.

Now the South Korean giant is having difficulties because it cannot give up System LSI, even if the division is not doing well financially. This is why, in addition to the possibility of joining Foundry, Samsung would also be studying two other options: completely restructuring System LSI, or joining with Samsung MX, its division for mobile devices.
Samsung’s solution may not be well accepted by its customers
While the solution to unite System LSI with the Foundry division would be becoming the most likely, there is still an obstacle for this decision to go forward, according to Sedaily information.

The difficulty would be the same that led to the separation of divisions in 2017. Customers of the company’s Foundry division, such as Nvidia and Qualcomm, are not very comfortable to deliver their designs to manufacture chips when the same division also works in their own research and development. Concerns with industrial espionage and copies increase in these cases.
At the moment, we are still in the phase of rumors and leaks. Although the information is correct, it seems that Samsung has not yet made a definitive decision.
