Samsung has reportedly signed a new contract that will postpone the end of its production of DDR4 components, according to a report from DigiTimes. A few months ago, the company announced the end of manufacturing the technology to focus on DDR5, but today’s inflated memory prices made it attractive for the company to place another order.
The information has not been confirmed by Samsung, but the website reports that it is an NCNR contract, which can be translated as “non-cancellable and non-returnable”. This means that the undisclosed customer has contracted a pre-determined number of DDR4 modules at a total price, and cannot change their mind in the future.
Unfortunately for the end consumer, although it does not reveal exactly which Samsung customer is, DigiTimes states that the order is for use on servers, as would be expected in the current market situation. This means that, even though Samsung extends the life of its DDR4 memories, the measure will not impact the products’ shelf prices, or even their availability.
Memory market continues with no forecast of improvement in 2026
Samsung announced in April that it would end production of DDR4 components. Other memory giants, such as Micron and SK Hynix, followed the same path, but the current market situation is so atypical that plans may change.
Even so, it is most likely that only contracts like the one reported will appear. The technology industry increasingly focuses on the professional use of components, trying to offer the end consumer more services than products.

The predictions for the memory market are that we will not see an improvement throughout 2026. Analysts estimate something closer to normality only in 2027, with more pessimistic predictions talking about the beginning of 2028.
