Samsung Electronics announced last Wednesday (25) the launch of the SSD 990 EVO Plus. It supports the PCIe 4.0 interface. Furthermore, it is equipped with the most advanced NAND technology, which promises to offer up to 50% more speed compared to its predecessor, the 990 EVO.
According to the company, the 990 EVO Plus was developed to meet the growing demand for improved performance in activities that involve large data processing. Samsung reinforced that it is capable of acting with precision whether in games, content creation or business applications.
Today, the average person generates more than 100 megabytes of data per minute
James Fishler, Senior Vice President of Home Entertainment, Samsung Electronics America
The 990 EVO Plus offers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 megabytes per second (MB/s). Additionally, it also has write speeds of up to 6,300 MB/s. This significant speed increase is made possible by Samsung’s 8th generation V-NAND technology and 5 nanometer controller.
Therefore, the inclusion of a nickel-plated heatsink helps minimize overheating. But that’s not all, as it also manages to improve energy efficiency by up to 73% compared to the previous model.

The 990 EVO Plus also offers 1TB, 2TB and 4TB storage options, surpassing the maximum capacity of the previous model. The series also features Samsung’s TurboWrite 2.0, which optimizes the transfer of large files, reducing latency, whether editing high-resolution videos or running next-generation games.
The 4TB model stands out with a random read speed of 1.05 million input and output operations per second (IOPS). It can also boast a speed of 1.4 million IOPS for random writing.
In this way, even without the use of DRAM cache, the SSD approaches the performance of models with this technology. Thus, it appears as a device that ends up being highly recommended for tasks that demand high performance, such as games and artificial intelligence.
990 EVO Plus users will have access to Samsung Magician, a software that offers a series of optimization tools, including data migration and SSD performance customization. Thus, the software also monitors the health of the drive and ensures the security of stored data.
The new 990 EVO Plus series SSDs will be available on the market later this year. Therefore, Samsung highlighted that they arrive with suggested prices of US$109.99 for the 1TB model, US$184.99 for the 2TB model and US$344.99 for the 4TB model. However, unfortunately there are no details and information about the device’s arrival in Brazil.
