A Samsung announced that it will no longer release software updates for three of its devices: the Galaxy Z Flip 5Go Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+. All of these devices were originally released in August 2020, now marking the end of the line for support offered to them after completing four years of service.

It is worth noting that these devices had already stopped receiving feature and operating system updates in 2023, and from now on, they will also no longer receive essential security updates.

Samsung’s policy is to provide security updates for its devices that were released in 2019 or later for a minimum of four years. While Samsung has taken the initiative to extend update support for devices like the Galaxy S20 series – including the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra – until the fifth year after their launch, unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ versions will not be graced with this additional grace extension.

It’s worth noting that not all models in the Galaxy Tab S7 series will stop receiving security updates this year: for example, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE is still scheduled to receive such updates until at least March next year, since it was only released in March 2021.

However, the end of support is a fait accompli for the original variants of the Galaxy Z Flip (including the LTE variant, which had its updates ended in April of this same year).

To recap their history, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Tab S7+ hit the market in 2020, initially operating with Android 10 and the One UI 2.1 interface. These devices received three major Android operating system updates during their life cycle, receiving the last of them — Android 13 — in late 2022 or early 2023.

After that, they also got the incremental updates to One UI 5.1 and, subsequent to that, to One UI 5.1.1 — this being the final feature update they will experience.
