Last Monday (15), rumors began to circulate that, as a way to increase profits, Samsung would be willing to exit the SATA SSD market for common consumers. Sources from the Moore’s Law is Dead channel stated that, with this, the South Korean company could collaborate to further increase the price of components — which would result in higher profit margins for it.
However, the company itself went public to state that these reports are not based on reality. In a statement sent to the WCCFTech website, the company stated that it is not moving away from this market, nor is it stopping producing any SSD from its various lines.

However, this does not necessarily mean that consumers should not witness further price increases. Samsung, as well as its main competitors, is facing unprecedented demand for components — the result of large investments in databases, especially those linked to generative artificial intelligence.
Samsung will not follow Micron’s path
The report about Samsung’s supposed withdrawal from the SATA SSD market gained strength because it would not be something unprecedented at the current moment in the industry. At the beginning of December, Micron revealed that it will no longer sell products from the Crucial line, aimed at domestic consumers.
At the time, she stated that she made the decision as consequence of pressure exerted by corporate clients in the AI segment. Thus, the corporation preferred to direct all of its production to this profitable segment, at the same time leaving consumers with one less option.

Samsung plays an important role in the SSD sector, as it is one of the largest NAND memory manufacturers in the world. Therefore, any decision to cease its consumer lines could have immediate effects on the general public — including large price increases.
Even with the South Korean company remaining in the market, Anyone who wants to improve their computer components should run — or have a lot of patience. The tendency is for price increases to continue for at least the next two years, including affecting the HDD segment.
