Sabrent shows PCI-Express board for 16 M.2 SSDs

Sabrent is showing off its new PCI-Express card, the Apex X16 Rocket 5 Destroyer – which, as the name suggests, supports up to 16 M.2 SSDs.

According to the manufacturer, this is the fifth generation of the Apex line, which can work with 16 4 TB Rocket 5 SSDs. This allows the user to have up to 64 TB in their hands using some of the fastest M.2 on the market on both sides of the card.

Another important aspect disclosed by Sabrent is that the Apex X16 Rocket 5 Destroyer uses only one PCIe Gen 5×16 slot – which leaves a lot of space that can be used for other SSDs or even another x16 card, further boosting its speed.

In terms of specifications, the PCI-Express card also does not disappoint and can reach impressive speeds of 56 GiB/s sequential reads and 54 GiB/s sequential writes. At random 4K IOPS, it can achieve 20 million 4K reads and 19 million writes IOPS.

Sabrent states that the PCI-Express Apex X16 Rocket 5 Destroyer card is in the final stages of testing and should soon define its market launch date, as well as its suggested price.

Sabrent’s Apex model

PCI-Express Apex cards are a new solution found by manufacturers like Sabrent to bring multiple SSDs into operation using just one slot.

As we said, the Apex X16 Rocket 5 Destroyer model is fifth generation, and in the fourth we could see the Apex X21 Destroyer – with the possibility of equipping up to 21 M.2 SSDs and reaching a total of 168 TB.

Despite having a greater quantity in the fourth generation, it is notable that the speeds achieved in Sabrent SSDs are even higher and everything indicates that the manufacturer will not stop at just the quantity of 16 M.2.

The manufacturer itself revealed that it has projects for cards that will support even more M.2 SSDs in the near future and it shouldn’t be long before we see their announcement.
