During Computex 2024, AMD revealed the next generation of Ryzen notebook processors designed specifically for generative AI workloads: the Ryzen AI 300 series.
With this line, AMD redefines its high-performance chips, maintaining the HX suffix introduced in 2022 to designate the best and fastest processors in the category, without specifying power consumption.

Advanced architecture for superior performance
The new Ryzen AI 300 chips arrive in a build made on the company’s latest architectures, combining neural processing, integrated graphics and general processing. The XDNA2 architecture is used for the NPU, RDNA 3.5 for the iGPU, now with up to 16 computing units, and Zen 5 for the CPU. This combination promises robust and efficient performance for diverse applications.
The first two processors in the series are the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the Ryzen AI 9 365. Both have a 50 TOPS NPU, with the HX variant being the most advanced. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is equipped with 12 cores and 24 threads, a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz, 36MB cache and Radeon 890M graphics. The Ryzen AI 9 365 has 10 cores and 12 threads, a maximum clock speed of 5.0GHz, 34MB cache and Radeon 880M graphics.
Superiority in TOPS and energy efficiency
The Ryzen AI 9 300 series stands out in the market by offering the highest amount of TOPS (trillions of operations per second) compared to other chips with NPU. For example, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon , but the upcoming Lunar Lake promises to balance this difference.
AMD also revealed that the XDNA2 NPU has five times the computing power and twice the energy efficiency compared to the previous generation. This is due to its unique FP16 “block” architecture, capable of processing both 8-bit performance (INT8) and 16-bit precision (FP16) in generative AI workloads without the need for quantization.
Quantization is a common method that even Qualcomm uses in its smartphone chips to increase the energy efficiency of AI models, but it can compromise accuracy. AMD’s new chips promise to perform both types of mathematical operations without conversion, ensuring fast and accurate processing of AI workloads.
Availability of the new Ryzen AI 300 series
Starting in July 2024, Ryzen AI 300 processors will be available in several laptops announced at Microsoft’s recent Surface event, including the Asus Vivobook S 15 and HP OmniBook.
Other models that will incorporate these processors include MSI Stealth A16, Summit A16, Prestige A16, and Creator A16; Asus Zenbook S 16, Vivobook S 14 and 16, and ProArt P16/X13; in addition to the Rog Zephyrus G16 and Tuf A14/A16 gaming laptops. Lenovo will also integrate the Ryzen AI 300 series into more ThinkBooks, ThinkPads, and Yogas.
