A new rumor about AMD’s next 3D V-Cache processors corroborates previous information that both the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D actually arrive at the end of January 2025. The unofficial information, however, belies hopes that the AMD would implement this type of cache on each chiplet of the CCD design.
The rumors of the moment come from Hoang Anh Phu (@AnhPhuH), who posted on Twitter about the 16-color and 12-color models in the AMD Ryzen 9000 X3D line. In other words, precisely the 9950X3D and the 9900X3D. Responding to another user’s comment, the “leaker” confirms that the processors will have the “same design as last time”.
At the end of September we had a leak that the first Ryzen 9000 X3D would be the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and would be launched at the end of October. The processor was confirmed at the end of that month and made its debut in early November.
The same author of that leak reported that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D would arrive in 2025 with “some new features”. This has led many to speculate that one of them would be the 3D V-Cache on each chiplet. Apparently that won’t be the case.
3D V-Cache shines in games, but has its drawbacks
The implementation of 3D V-Cache in one of the chiplets in the CCD design of AMD processors has proven its effectiveness in games. This resulted in successful launches and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which currently “reigns” the segment.
However, the non-uniformity of the CCD can result in problems, depending on the way in which some applications are optimized. This is why, for example, certain AM5 boards offer “X3D Turbo” mode, which helps avoid some performance bottlenecks when disabling one of the chiplets. It looks like the feature will continue to be useful for this generation of 3D V-Cache.
