Ryzen 9 9950X with home watercooling takes fifth place in 3DMark

The Ryzen 9 9950X, AMD’s top-of-the-line Zen 5 processor, has come in as the fifth-fastest CPU in the world in 3DMark’s Time Spy Extreme benchmark. To top off the impressive feat, the test was conducted using a traditional home computer liquid cooler.

The Ryzen 9 9950X’s excellent positioning in the Time Spy Extreme ranking was achieved with 20,109 points. This puts the CPU behind only processors for professional use. As shown in the image below, only two AMD Threadrippers and one Intel Xeon at different clock speeds are ahead of the processor:

It’s interesting to note that in this specific test, the Zen 5 CPU comes in first place if we only count processors with 16 cores. The components in front of it have exorbitant numbers of cores – the two Threadrippers use 64 cores each, while the Xeon has 56.

The scores were found on the benchmark platform and posted on Twitter by HXL (@9550pro). He also lists numbers from other tests, apparently done by the same person with the processor under liquid cooling.

Ryzen 9 9950X in other tests

The top of the Ryzen 9000 series scored 1,393 points in 3DMark’s Profile 1 Thread, earning it the tenth position in the benchmark’s Hall of Fame. In the same test, with all cores, the processor drops to 23rd place.

However, again restricting the test to 16-core processors, the Ryzen 9 9950X manages to stay in first position.

In addition, we also have results for Cinebench 2003 and HWBot X265, where the processor ranked 107th and 32nd, respectively. In the second case, once again counting only 16-core processors, AMD’s new model comes in first place.

What stands out most in the results are the good positions that the CPU achieves using traditional liquid cooling. We already know a little about the potential of the processor with LN2, and we should see even more impressive scores start to appear when the Ryzen 9000 series finally makes its debut.
