Leaks for AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series of processors are almost daily, and now we even have an overclocked Ryzen 9 9950X benchmark. The ever-reliable HXL (@9550pro) posted a screenshot of GeekBench 6 on Twitter, showing the model running at nearly 6GHz.
AMD’s next top-of-the-line Zen 5-based CPU appears at exactly 5,952MHz. That means an overclock of approximately 250MHz, since the nominal boost clock for this model is 5.7GHz. In this configuration, the Ryzen 9 9950X would have scored 3,706 in single-core and a whopping 26,047 in multi-core.
Tom’s Hardware points out that there’s probably some other configuration in the system that’s driving the test results. The site believes that a 26% or so boost in the score just because of an extra 250MHz would be too much. However, since the information isn’t official, it’s just speculation. They’ve put together a comparison table of the benchmark leaks we’ve had so far to help you visualize:
It is possible to estimate that this overclock was achieved without the need for advanced modifications or liquid nitrogen cooling, for example. In other words, it is something close to what ordinary users of the processor can achieve at home. However, it is important to remember that it is very possible that this is an engineering sample, and the final clock numbers may change before the processor hits the shelves.
While the results of AMD’s upcoming high-end overclocking product may be exciting, we’ll have to wait a little longer for the official launch of the components. After getting very close to the launch, the manufacturer has suddenly decided to postpone its launch.
As explained in this post, AMD mentions quality issues but doesn’t disclose details. So, the updated dates for the Ryzen 9000 series are:
- Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X – on August 8, 2024
- Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X – on August 15, 2024.
