The Ryzen 9 9950X, the top-of-the-line AMD next-generation desktop processor, appeared in benchmark tests with the PPT set at just 160W. At that setting, the CPU was still able to outperform the Ryzen 9 7950X at 230W and the Intel Core i9-14900K at 253W.
The benchmark was done in Blender, and the results of AMD’s new Zen 5 were better in the software’s three tests: Monster, Kunkshop and Classroom. This is according to information released by user Igor_kavinski, on the Anandtech forum. The person is said to be in possession of an engineering sample of the processor.
At this power configuration, the Ryzen 9 9950X achieved a boost clock of up to 5,550MHz. The CPU’s standard TDP should be 170W, where the frequency should reach 5,700MHz. Even “nerfed”, the processor still performed 16% better than its predecessor in the benchmark:
The above table was put together by WCCFTech and shows not only the results of the high-end Zen 5 at 160W, but also at 120W, 90W, and 60W. All tests were published by the same user.
When it comes to new hardware, it’s normal for the focus to be entirely on performance. Therefore, it’s interesting to see positive results in terms of efficiency. In addition to saving energy, lower voltage also means the processor heats up less. In tests at 160W, the Ryzen 9950X didn’t exceed 59ºC.
Finalized Ryzen 9950X being tested?
Yesterday, on the 11th, a photo of the Ryzen 9000 series of processors leaked onto the internet. However, the 9950X did not appear in the image. Therefore, questions were raised as to whether the top of the line was still being tested by reviewers.
The results shown here indicate that at least engineering samples are in the hands of some people. However, this does not yet indicate that the finished product is also being evaluated.
According to leaks, the Ryzen 9000 line will have four SKUs at the beginning of its “life”. They will be the Ryzen 9 9950X, the Ryzen 9 9900X, the Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 5 9600X.
