AMD Ryzen 9000 processors were due to arrive next Wednesday (31), but have been postponed. Officially, it was said that the SKUs did not meet quality expectations, but now indications point to problems with printing CPU names as the real reason for the delay in the launch.
A photo of a “Ryzen 9 9700X” has surfaced online, and if you haven’t noticed, that’s a misnomer, since x7xx CPUs are part of the Ryzen 7 series. In addition to the example in the image below, Tom’s Hardware has also confirmed that there is a “Ryzen 9 9600X” out there, rather than a Ryzen 5 9600X.
Nothing was said about the same error in the names of the Ryzen 9000 processors also occurring on their boxes, a problem that would be easy to fix. Apparently, these errors are printed on the processors themselves. This problem has been confirmed by different insiders, such as Ian Cutress e “9550pro”.

Underperformance was speculated as one of the reasons
In AMD’s official statement about the postponement of the Ryzen 9000 launch, it was only said that the models sent did not meet the company’s quality expectations.
During final checks, we discovered that the initial production units shipped to our partners did not meet all of our quality expectations. Out of an abundance of caution and to maintain the highest quality and experience for all Ryzen users, we are working with our partners to replace the initial production units with new units.
AMD
A rumor that emerged shortly after said that the real reason for the delay of the Zen 5 desktop processors was the low performance of the SKUs sent to the international media, which reported the problems to AMD. Therefore, the company then asked for the models back for verification.
If we consider these new clues, which even have image proof, the real reason for the delay of the AMD Ryzen 9000 is somewhat unusual, something we don’t usually see very often.
Because of this, the four revealed SKUs will arrive in August on two different dates:
- Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X will be officially launched on August 8, 2024;
- Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X will be officially launched on August 15, 2024.
We continue to follow this story of AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs, which is much less complicated than the situation Intel is going through with its Raptor Lake processors.
