The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is selling out in all major stores in the United States and Europe. Not only in-stock items, but even pre-orders are already reaching the maximum distribution capacity of large retailers. Thus, it didn’t take long for the infamous “scalpers” to appear, offering the processor for prices approaching US$1,000.
Starting with the scene in Europe, the 3DCenter Twitter account made a list of some of the biggest stores in Germany and Austria. On launch day, November 7th, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D was sold out in most stores.
Not only that, but the people at MindFactory even canceled some of the pre-sales made because they knew they would not be able to deliver all the orders that were placed.
Meanwhile, the scenario in the US is similar. Newegg, Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon also had their stocks completely sold out on launch day. The folks at Tom’s Hardware report that units of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D could still be found at the MicroCenter store, but limited to some of the cities where the store operates.
Evidently, the popularity of the “new king of gamers” boosts its sales, but the action of scalpers cannot be ignored either.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D sells for exorbitant prices on eBay
AMD made the official announcement of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D a week before its launch, on October 31st. At that moment, the manufacturer already revealed the official price of the product: US$479 – the equivalent of R$2,723 at the current price.
However, taking advantage of the product’s depletion in large stores and, probably being partly responsible for this, scalpers are already selling the processor for values close to US$1,000 on eBay.

Scalping is the practice of purchasing popular products in the hope that they will sell out, with the intention of reselling them for much higher prices when that happens. PS5 players became very familiar with this practice at the console’s launch.
Tom’s Hardware points out that prices above US$900 are not the most common for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. In most cases, the processor appears for around US$750 at resale. Still, an absurdly higher value than the MSRP, equivalent to R$4,263.
