The RTX 5090 appeared in new leaks from Benchlife revealing more technical details of the card. This even includes a supposed photograph of its GPU, the GB202, based on NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture. As always, it’s good to be skeptical about unofficial information, especially in cases where the text is translated by robots.
However, Benchlife is known for correct leaks by bringing information from close contacts with AIBs, the partners that manufacture customized versions of video cards. This time, the post says it is based on a reference model of the RTX 5090, by PNY.
The text reaffirms the capacity of 32GB of GDDR7 memory and the 600W TGP for the card. He adds that a 16+6 +7 phase power design is expected, which is different from the 20+3 used on the RTX 4090. The site does not confirm, however, whether the 12V-2×6 connector will be used on the RTX 5090 , or any other new generation card.
The post also comments that the RTX 5090 PCB must have 14 layers. Meanwhile, another user on the same forum revealed what could be a photograph of the GB202 GPU, with its considerable size of 744mm²:
The RTX 5090’s GPU is among the largest an RTX has ever had
If the new unofficial information is correct, including the size of the GB202, this will be one of the largest GPUs to ever appear in RTX graphics cards. VideoCardz has put together a list of sizes in different generations. Below, in descending chronological order:
- GB202 (Blackwell): 744mm²
- AD102 (Ada): 608mm²
- GA102 (Ampere): 628mm²
- TU102 (Turing): 754mm²
- GV100 (Volta): 815mm²
- GN200 (Maxwell): 601mm²
- GK110 (Kepler): 551mm²
The RTX 5090 should be the top of the RTX 50 line, expected to be revealed at CES 2025, at the NVIDIA keynote on January 6th. The card represents a considerable leap in specifications compared to the next model in the line, the RTX 5080. Supposedly, the company is also already working on the RTX 5090D, a version of the card with reduced specs to be sold in China.
