ASUS revealed a few weeks ago in China a new version of its ROG NUC mini PC, equipped with a Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor, instead of an Intel CPU. Now the company has confirmed the global launch of the product, along with a new official name: ROG GR70.
The decision to remove the NUC brand from the name reminds us that this acronym – Next Unit of Compute – was actually created by Intel, when the company created partnerships for very compact PCs in the format of the ROG GR70. ASUS bought the rights to the name, but it appears that the terms of the contract included some barring of using AMD processors in NUC devices.
This change may end up confusing some users, since only the name has been changed. The case design, connections and other configurations remain similar to this year’s ROG NUC. It is worth mentioning that the change applies to China too: different from what was thought, the new version of the mini PC with Ryzen 9 9955HX3D will be sold there as ROG 9 Mini.

ASUS ROG GR70 limits the GPU to an RTX 5070
As we mentioned when the new version of the compact PC was revealed, the ROG GR70 is limited to an RTX 5070 as a GPU, while the NUC versions with Intel offer variants with the RTX 5070 Ti and 5080. ASUS did not explain this limitation, since the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D can easily keep up with more powerful GPUs.
Not only that, but it’s also worth mentioning that the new processor supports capacities of up to 96GB of DDR5-5600 memory, but ASUS offers a maximum of 32GB in this year’s edition of its mini PCs.

Unfortunately, the global announcement of the ROG GR70 was not accompanied by an official price in dollars. We know, however, that it will be sold in China for 14,999 yuan (R$11,281), so we expect something above US$2,110 here.
