Falsified processors, unfortunately, are not a rarity. But a recent purchase of the Hardware Busters channel draws attention for the boldness of those who tried to falsify a Ryzen 7 9800x3D – and even more because the sale was made directly by Amazon.
As shown in the video below, the channel bought a Ryzen 7 9800x3D on Germany’s Amazon to use on one of its test machines. The product arrived sealed and in the box, but even before opening it could already see that something wrong was not right. By the small opening of the packaging, which shows the processor, it was already possible to see that its design was quite different.
In addition to the change in design, the text printed on the dissipping is not much sense-especially considering that the Ryzen 7 9800x3D are being made in Malaysia, not China as shown in the fake model. Looking at the more close image we can see something else: small letters appearing under the impression.
Then the mystery is unraveled. The counterfeit impression is nothing more than a rough adhesive over the real processor’s hidge: an AMD FX-4100 2011, which can currently be found for $ 115. Hardware Busters people paid the equivalent of $ 518 for the sticker model.
Ryzen 7 9800x3D was sold directly by Amazon
The most curious – and alarming – of history is that hardware Busters emphasizes that they bought the product directly from Amazon, not by one of the third party stores that the giant sometimes acts as a distributor.
“I bought this processor for the standard price at Amazon itself, not for a third party salesman, and it was a new and not a used!”, Explains the channel in his post on the subject. “My processor package was sealed! I was the first to open it. So Amazon has to do a deep search and see from those who received this processor, and probably warn AMD. ”
