Review shows RTX 5080 only 8.3% faster, on average, than the RTX 4080 Super

The RTX 5080 was only 8.3% in front of the RTX 4080 Super in the average test results in 11 different games. These results were obtained by Igor’s Lab staff, who eventually published the first review for RTX 5080 ahead of time. The analysis has already been taken down, but not before captures of being saved on screen catches on Reddit.

The tests were done in the 1440p resolution, without Ray Tracing and without DLSS. Tested games include Starfield, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Shadow of the Tomb Rauder, Alan Wake 2, among others. The inevitable Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong were also used to measure GPU performance.

In absolute frames of frames per second, the RTX 5080 offers, on average, precisely 9fps more than the RTX 4080 Super, according to Igor’s Lab tests:

The tests also show the average energy consumption of RTX 5080 in Watts. The plate needed 289.7W on average to play the games. It’s just 12W in front of RTX 4080 Super. If you compare Watts count on frame count per second offered, the new GPU spends a little less energy than the RTX 4080 Super.

Igor’s Lab results should disappoint some of the players waiting for RTX 5080, but we don’t have a complete panorama of GPU performance.

It would be interesting to see tests in more settings, such as 4K for example. In addition, results involving Ray Tracing certainly misses the performance of the new video card. Not to mention the fact that with 80% of NVIDIA customers using DLSS, super resolution tests are also important.
