A new version of the Raspberry Pi 5 has been launched on the market, with just 2GB of RAM and bringing its entire structure with prices starting at $50.
Previously, only two versions were available on the market: a 4GB variant that sold for $60 and an 8GB variant that sold for $80. Both are just $5 more expensive than their previous-generation counterparts.
Although a Raspberry Pi 5 with 2GB is not enough for functions such as the use of artificial intelligence and also for full use of the power of its device, the manufacturer’s CEO – Eben Upton – says that consumers will find that the device “works perfectly well” in less demanding tasks.
As for the hardware itself, Upton also states that it has identical features to the other variants – just working with less RAM. Their intention is to bring models with prices that are more suitable for the public’s pocket, filling the space with variants that suit the needs.

According to the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the new 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 model continues to maintain its RP1 I/O controller with an Arm Cortex-A76 processor – which can reach a boost of up to 2.4GHz.
However, the version had to be optimized to be cost-effective, so some processor features that were not essential for performing its tasks were eliminated. This ensured a cheaper chip with the same features, including its PCI Express 2.0 interface.
Raspberry Pi 5 Extensions
One of the biggest attractions of the Raspberry Pi 5, launched in 2023, is the possibility of attaching extensions via HAT+. With this, the device gains several new functions and resources to be used, such as a kit aimed precisely at artificial intelligence, another to attach an NVMe base and several others.
In Brazil, the device and its accessories can be purchased in two official stores listed on the manufacturer’s website: Robocore and Maker Hero.
