Qualcomm has officially introduced its Snapdragon X Plus processors with 8 cores and the notebooks that will use the new hardware – such as the ASUS Zenbook S 15 and Dell Inspiron 14 that will hit the market for $899 each ($100 less than the models with the 10-core CPU) and the Dell Latitude 5455 (no price set).

Although the chips have the same features seen in the 10 and 12-core versions, the manufacturer also claims that it had to weaken it in some way to make its costs cheaper – especially in the graphics part.

According to Qualcomm’s benchmarks, the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processors that will be in the new notebooks will have less than half the GPU power for games and other applications that require strong graphics. In addition, it will have 12MB less CPU cache – despite maintaining the 45 TOPS of NPU for artificial intelligence.

As you can see above, the Snapdragon X Elite CPUs with 12 cores have up to 4.6 TFLOPS; some models of this one and the versions with 10 cores carry 3.8 TFLOPS. While we will have a version of the processor with 8 cores that will have 2.1 TFLOPS, the other one only has 1.7 TFLOPS.

Furthermore, Qualcomm’s own internal benchmarks for the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processors reveal that the new CPU has 80% of the capacity of the 12-core chips in terms of processing and is comparable to the 10-core version in productivity.

Even with the data presented by Qualcomm, it is important to remember that the company has been accused in the past of manipulating benchmarks – therefore, it would be “safer” to wait for the release of information about notebooks with 8-core Snapdragon X Plus before thinking about purchasing a model.

Considering that there were already criticisms about the Snapdragon X processors with Adreno GPU for games in the Copilot+ PC, the version with 8 cores reinforces that this type of computer will be focused on delivering performance for artificial intelligence and everyday tasks rather than highlighting good use for gaming and more demanding applications.
