O PlayStation 5 Pro may finally receive the performance boost that many have been waiting for since its launch.
Recent rumors indicate that Sony plans to release the update PSSR 2.0 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) between January and March this year to correct visual flaws in the first version and bring features similar to AMD’s FSR 4.
Although the console hit the market in November 2024 as the most powerful platform today, initial reception of the AI upscaling feature has been mixed. Many users reported that the PSSR originaldespite its potential, presented visual glitches and did not deliver the sharpness promised in demanding titles.
Now, according to information from the Japanese insider Taste_FANknown for accurate hardware leaks, the new version should change this scenario.
Image and performance improvements in PSSR 2.0
According to the leak, the firmware update will bring an implementation comparable to FSR 4, focused on image stability and frame gain.
The report suggests that games that currently operate in the 70 a 80 FPS no PS5 Pro can reach the so desired 120 FPS, making better use of TVs with a high refresh rate.
In addition to the gross performance gain, the update should introduce new debugging tools for developers.
This would facilitate the optimization of future releases, such as the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverineallowing studios to extract the most from the console’s GPU without the difficulties encountered in the first generation of the algorithm upscalingfor example.

Higher resolution for classic games
We can’t deny it: one of the most interesting points of the rumor involves the library of retro titles. The source indicates that PSSR 2.0 will be able to apply significantly higher resolution in classic games original low resolution.
This would make the Deluxe level subscriptions of PlayStation Plus more attractive, bringing a renewed visual experience to games from past generations.
If confirmed, this update could be the difference needed to justify the investment in the console, which arrived in Brazil with a suggested price of R$6,999 and still remains high, with values ranging between R$6,000 and R$6,500.
If it is able to correct image instability and boost the frame rate, Sony would finally achieve what it promised back then, in 2024, saying that stability in 4K would be achieved.
However, it is worth remembering that, despite the source’s positive history, Sony has not yet made the update date official.
