The new PlayStation 5 Pro from Sony could cost between $600 and $700, according to Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb.

The PS5 Pro GPU will have 60 RDNA 3.0 Compute Units (CUs) and can reach up to 2.35GHz, which represents a maximum of 36 TFLOPs of compute power, a 5.4% increase over the PS5 GPU. Sony has also created a DLSS-like upscaler called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

The mid-generation console could sell for $599, being the most expensive and powerful option, completing the PS5 lineup: the PS5 Digital for $449, the base model of the PS5 with a disc drive for $499 and the possible PS5 Pro for $599.

Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb shared his predictions for the device, which is relevant since he often has inside information about Sony. While this is just an estimate from Grubb, he did mention that Sony may hold a State of Play event in September to announce the console:

“The indications are that studios big and small already have development kits, and we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the announcement and release. I would say that I’ve heard that this console will be released later this year. And more recently, I’ve heard that there will probably be a Sony State of Play in late September.“, disse Grubb.

“I’m betting on $600. It could be more, it’s possible. Yes, $700 is a lot, but… look, the Xbox Series X with 2TB and disc drive was announced for $600. I think Sony could follow that price for the PS5 Pro and leave Microsoft in a tough spot.“
