Even though the PlayStation 5 Pro continues to be kept under wraps by Sony Interactive Entertainment, leaks of what was seen in the dev kit already indicate the path the manufacturer will take with its new hardware.

The YouTube channel “Moore’s Law is Dead” points out that reliable sources have released some details of the developer kit – designed for testing and so that studios can study improvements that their games may present. In it, they revealed that the device will have a 2TB Gen4 SSD and will have a consumption of 200W.

Considering that Microsoft already offers an Xbox Series X with 2TB, it wouldn’t be strange for Sony to choose the same path with the dev kit for its PlayStation 5 Pro and with supposedly better hardware.

The leak also points out that the model the studios received had efficient and silent cooling, in addition to using the same power connector seen on the standard PlayStation 5 console and with the same consumption.

According to Moore’s Law is Dead, the PlayStation 5 Pro dev kit still generates lower temperatures and, at times, even consumes less power than the regular PS5 using AMD’s semi-custom SoC (codenamed “Viola”).

PlayStation 5 Pro Rumors

It’s important to note that Moore’s Law is Dead has had information about the PlayStation 5 Pro dev kit, which doesn’t mean that the hardware will come with exactly these configurations in its final version. Projects are modified as time goes by, and may present slightly different specifications than what was seen in the tests.

During gamescom 2024, Sony’s new hardware was already an “open secret”, with several developers and studios making comments about the next video game and their estimates for the release.

It’s possible that the manufacturer is preparing the PlayStation 5 Pro to be announced during the Tokyo Games Show 2024 in September – considering they want to launch it in 2024 – so an official reveal and disclosure of its specifications will probably be seen in the coming weeks.
