The PlayStation 5 continues to lead console sales in the United States, with the largest share of consumers also being seen in the month of June 2024 – according to the analysis released by the company Circana.
In addition to reaching the top of units sold in one of the main markets, it was also the best-selling video game within the period of the first six months of this year – surpassing the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series.
The information presented about the PlayStation 5, however, is not so encouraging: even with the “gold medal”, Sony Interactive Entertainment saw a 28% drop in console sales during the first half of the year – compared to the same period seen in 2023.
During this period, the Xbox Series saw an 18% drop in sales and the Nintendo Switch suffered the most – with a 48% reduction in the first half of the year compared to the previous year, despite being the second best-selling console. The Xbox was the second highest-grossing console during this period, with Nintendo’s hybrid console reaching third place.
In addition to high sales of the PlayStation 5, Sony saw the DualSense “Midnight Black” controller reach the top of the sales rankings in its category and the PS Portal become the accessory that raised the most sales within the first half of 2024 in the United States.

The analysis carried out by Circana not only crowns the PlayStation 5 as the best-selling in the United States this past June, but also provides information about games during this period.
Elden Ring was the best-selling game in the US, with credit to the expansion “Shadow of the Edtree” which not only brought back existing players, but also made the base multiply even more. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance also stood out as the biggest debut of the month, reaching fourth place in sales upon its launch.
Still, Helldivers 2 (PlayStation 5 and PCs) was the best-selling game of the entire first half of 2024 in the territory, while Fortnite achieved the title of most played game on the PS5 platform during the same period.
