Patriot announced this week a new SSD with the PCIe 4 interface, the P400 V4. The drive comes in M.2 format and promises speeds of up to 6,200MB/s for reading and up to 5,200MB/s for writing. The new SSD also offers several storage options for different uses.
With the year 2025 just around the corner, SSDs using the PCIe 5.0 interface should become increasingly common, but Patriot shows that options will still appear with the previous generation of the platform. In addition to being much more popular on mainstream PCs, it is the format adopted by current consoles.
It’s no surprise that Patriot promotes its new P400 V4 for use on the PS5 as well. The company says its “advanced graphene heatshield” helps maintain stable performance on the console. However, the manufacturer itself points out that on the PS5 the reading speed is a little slower, reaching 6,000MB/s.
Unfortunately, Patriot did not offer an official price list for its new SSDs. The company, however, confirmed that they will be launched in capacities of 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB.
Patriot P400 V4 detailed speeds
It is worth mentioning that performance rates vary depending on the capacity of each model. Below are the estimates for each option of the new Patriot SSD:
- 500GB: Reading up to 5,000MB/s | Recording up to 3,000MB/s (160TB TBW)
- 1TB: Reading up to 6,000MB/s | Recording up to 5,000MB/s (320TB TBW)
- 2TB: Reading up to 6,200MB/s | Recording up to 5,200MB/s (640TB TBW)
- 4TB: Reading up to 6,200MB/s | Recording up to 5,200MB/s (1280TB TBW)
The P400 V4 drives feature SmartECC technology and support even older versions of Windows, such as 7 and 8, as long as the user searches for the correct drivers. They are certified to work between temperatures of 0ºC and 70ºC and the company also promises a 5-year warranty for the products.
