Developer Alderon Games has added a rather radical warning to its Path of Titans game regarding issues with Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs. Now, if the game crashes on a 13th or 14th generation Intel Core user’s PC, they will be warned that the problem may be with the processor.
The HXL account (@9550pro), known for its hardware leaks, released a screenshot of the new warning. You can check out the post below, followed by a free translation:
“The game crashed.
We have detected that you have the following CPU: (the processor in use appears, in the example an Intel Core i7-13700K).
This CPU has issues with modern Unreal Engine 5 games that can result in crashes.
Do you want to open a link with information on how to potentially fix these crashes?
Unfortunately the post doesn’t show which link the warning opens to help resolve the issues. Potentially instructions for putting the BIOS on the baseline profile.
The issues that have been affecting Intel processors based on Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh have obviously bothered developers as well. Before Intel communicated about the situation, Warframe’s people had already been complaining and the owner of Unreal Engine itself – Epic – decided to migrate the hardware of its PCs.
However, the situation for Path of the Titans is even worse. Developer Alderon Games, according to Tom’s Hardware, was the only one to report a 100% crash rate for its game using 13th or 14th generation Cores.
Intel promises improvements for August
Despite a delay in commenting on the situation – which involved blaming motherboard manufacturers first – Intel promised improvements in August. The company says it is working on new microcode to be made available in the second half of next month.
So, it will still depend on its partners to implement the update with new BIOSes. MSI was one of the first to promise an update, arriving in August.
Now we just have to wait and see how many cases this update will be able to fix. In addition, Intel will also have to work on restoring its reputation, which may be as difficult as fixing Raptor Lake.
