Onexgpu Lite is revealed with Radeon RX 7600m XT and Thunderbolt 5 connection

OnexPlayer revealed this week a teaser for its next external GPU (EGPU) dock, focused on notebooks and mini PCs. OnexGpu Lite does not stand out for its accompanying video card, but by introducing Thunderbolt 5, as shown by the manufacturer’s release.

The new dock comes equipped with a Radeon RX 7600m XT, which has appeared in latest segment product launches. As AMD does not yet talk about news for RDNA 4 in the Mobile segment, manufacturers are still using last generation GPUS.

This way, OnexGpu Lite will not offer as much performance as OnexGpu 2, which arrived last year with a Radeon RX 7800m. That is, the main highlight of the new dock is the Thunderbolt 5 connection.

Onexgpu Lite promises “twice as much of PIE band”

In its promotional video, according to Videocardz translation, OnexPlayer states that the Thunderbolt 5 connection of OnexGpu Lite offers “twice as much of PIE band”. However, it is worth remembering that there is a limitation of 64gbps in the interface tunneling, something that Occulink already reaches.

Speaking of the Occulink connection, which became popular in docks of its kind, the disclosure of OnexPlayer does not say if we will see this interface either. The highlight is Thunderbolt 5 and the manufacturer does not say if we will have any USB-C port, for example, or which video outputs are available.

While the PCIE band may end up not being actually doubled, this does not mean that Thunderbolt 5 has no advantages over Occulink.

The interface, capable of offering 120gbps in one direction or 80Gbps two -way, can also be used to broadcast video and energy. Thus, it is possible for OnexGpu Lite to help eliminate the need to use more cables, as it would be in the case of Occulink.
