OneXFly Apex with Strix Halo will increase in price and blames memory market

OneXPlayer has announced that it will need to “adjust” the price of its OneXFly Apex laptop in the coming days, blaming the memory shortage that all hardware products are currently facing. Obviously, when a company talks about a price “adjustment”, it means an increase.

VideoCardz states that the adjustment will be US$200 (R$1,070), but in its official post the company only states that “due to the depleted memory and SSD inventory for the Apex, along with continued cost increases for components, the Apex price on Indiegogo will be adjusted in 96 hours.”

Apparently OneXPlayer is taking advantage of the increase to try to boost sales in the next 96 hours, hoping that users will want to take advantage while the product does not become more expensive. To make matters worse, the company is already warning that this may not be the only increase in its laptop with a Strix Halo processor.

“A second price adjustment may also be necessary if market conditions continue to change. For those planning to support Apex, now is the best time to lock in the current price,” the post concludes.

Will Apex competitors also suffer an increase?

The considerable increase in the price of the OneXFly Apex ends up hindering one of its main attractions in relation to the GPD Win 5, its main competitor. The OneXPlayer laptop with Strix Halo was announced after the GPD device, also featuring AMD’s high-performance processors, but at more affordable prices.

The way the memory market is going, it is quite possible, even likely, that the increases will affect Apex’s competitors as well, which could help maintain its “less expensive” value appeal.

The OneXFly notebook and the GPD Win 5 will soon have a new rival, in the form of the Ayaneo Next 2. So far we have not had its price revealed, and perhaps the company is already recalculating based on the current situation in the memory market.
