NVIDIA’s AI GPU supply will be at a satisfactory pace

NVIDIA’s supply of AI GPUs has faced several issues in 2023, but analysis indicates that this will not be seen with the production of the new “Blackwell” models.

According to information from DigiTimes, in recent quarters the manufacturer has made several improvements to increase its manufacturing network – whether by adding new partners, demanding more from its suppliers and also improving its existing facilities.

With NVIDIA’s “Blackwell” GPUs, the market is expected to have a veritable glut of AI hardware. DigiTimes’ analysis suggests that this massive improvement could mean there will be little to no waiting time for some of these in the near future.

The fear was fueled by last year’s surge in orders for AI accelerators — particularly the H100 — and the company didn’t have enough units to meet demand. By mid-2023, more than 40 percent of its production was tied up in backlogged orders.

While NVIDIA has not disclosed how many orders it has already registered for the “Blackwell” GPUs, it is expected that the B200 alone will reach one million units sold. In other words, this improvement in its supply chain will be essential for the growth and popularization of the use of AI in the future.

NVIDIA Focuses on GPUs for AI

In addition to NVIDIA already having branded itself as an “AI company,” these new GPUs will play an important role in its revenue and profits with the launch of the “Blackwell” line. Many tech companies are focusing on building high-scale AI clusters – with GB200 servers playing a key role.

In this second year of “AI hype,” it’s clear that NVIDIA has maintained its leadership in the market and will be boosted even further with the arrival of new GPUs. However, this doesn’t mean that the others are standing still: AMD recently acquired Silo AI, while Intel announced its Gaudi 3 accelerator at Computex 2024.
