After much back and forth, NVIDIA finally won special permission from the United States White House to resume selling artificial intelligence chips to China. However, the corporation will only be able to sell the H200 model to “buyers authorized” by the country’s government.

In a publication on the Truth Social network, US President Donald Trump stated that the agreement was made under “conditions that will allow the continuity of National Security”. As previously announced, 25% of the revenue acquired from the products will have to be redirected to the US Treasury.

With the decision, NVIDIA will be able to once again sell hardware dedicated to AI that is considerably better than the H20 linewhich still continues to ship to China. At the same time, the Blackwell models, considered their most powerful, continue to be barred from sale in foreign countries.

Launched in 2022 by NVIDIA, the H200 line features 144 GB of HBM3 memory and is known for being very efficient in training large language models. At the same time, his return to China comes at a time when Manufacturers like Huawei already offer competitors of a similar level.

In favor of the North American corporation, there is still the fact that many CUDA-based software works better on their hardware. At the same time, since export bans began to be enforced, the Chinese government began to show resistance to the corporation’s equipment — even accusing it of using it as a form of espionage.

According to the Semafor website, Trump’s decision to allow the sale of NVIDIA hardware is a consequence of the lack of results from previous restrictions. Even with the H200 being banned in China, companies like Alibaba, DeepSeek and Huawei continued to release more efficient models, even without having access to the most powerful hardware on the market.

Thus, NVIDIA ended up having its revenues affected without the trade war initiated by the United States having had many practical effects. By returning to the Chinese market, the corporation should have an easier time maintaining its recent growth, as well as helping to slow down the advancement of locally produced hardware, which will become less attractive.
