According to Wizzard, technical reviewer at TechPowerUP and creator of the GPU-Z tool, NVIDIA removed the Hot Spot sensor from RTX 5090 cards. Other reviewers also noted that the current data produced by this sensor shows 255°C, which is obviously incorrect.
Even with the removal of the “Hot Spot” sensor, You can still access GPU and memory temperatures. Even though there was always some controversy surrounding the Hot Spot, it was useful for diagnosing a misaligned cooler or waterblock.

According to available information, the Hot Spot sensor is not available on the RTX 5090 and probably on all 50 series cards. This sensor data must be removed from GPU-Z.
The Hot Spot is not a single sensor, but a method of reporting the highest temperature across the entire GPU die and multiple sensors. This feature may return in some form in the future, but for now, there is no way to access this data through the NVIDIA API.
Overheating problems affected the RTX 40 at launch, when there was a possibility of the plastic on the 12V-2×6 connectors melting. However, NVIDIA promised that the situation should not repeat itself with the 50 series cards, even with them pulling 575W to work.
Series 50
In the announcement, NVIDIA greatly emphasized the performance and performance of the 50 series, without commenting on this change. The company also talked a lot about its new dual-slot cooler design, designed to handle higher power requirements.
Among the main features highlighted were DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generator and Reflex 2, with Frame Warp technology. Both technologies are part of the Blackwell 50 series innovations and use AI to increase the performance and graphics quality of games.
And, this week, NVIDIA opened up the possibility of DLSS 4 reaching the 30 series, confirming that the first game that will support the technology is Cyberpunk 2077.
Reviewers who want to test the latest version of GPU-Z can contact Wizzard for the latest beta version, which should no longer display this sensor data. A stable version of GPU-Z is expected next week, aligning with the launch of the RTX 5080 cards.
