Nvidia introduced just before the weekend an DLSS SDK update that brings several improvements to its popular upscaling technology, with the main highlight for the Transformer model, which came out of its beta phase. Now, the company has released more details of the news, including the great memory economy that the new version of the model offers.
The update in question takes the DLSS of its version 310.2.1.0 for version 310.3.1.0. In the previous SDK the transformer model was already available in beta phase as an alternative to the traditional model of upscale, which is called CNN. The new technology promises to deliver a higher visual quality UPSCale, correcting flickery, ghosting and other artifacts of its kind.

To offer more quality, however, the transformer is more demanding of the memory capacity of its GPU than CNN. Below is the difference in the use of memory in different resolutions for each model, according to Nvidia itself:
- 1920 x 1080: 60,83MB (CNN) | 106,9MB (Transformer)
- 2560 x 1440: 97,79MB (CNN) | 181,11MB (Transformer)
- 3840 x 2160: 199,65MB (CNN) | 387,21MB (Transformer)
- 7840 x 4320: 778,3MB (CNN) | 1.517,60MB (Transformer)
Nvidia optimizes memory use in a new version of the transformer
As mentioned earlier, Nvidia has achieved an average 20% improvement in memory consumption in its new model. With the update to SDK 310.3.1.0 of the DLSS, this is the consumption of transformer in different resolutions, according to the company:
- 1920 x 1080: 85.77MB (reduction of 19.76%)
- 2560 x 1440: 143.54MB (reduction of 20.75%)
- 3840 x 2160: 307.37MB (reduction of 20.62%)
- 7840 x 4320: 1,225.17MB (reduction of 19.26%)

These are still considerably larger numbers than the CNN model requirements, but they can already make a difference to unburden signs with smaller capacities.

It is noteworthy that the model used in UPSCALE is valid for different generations of DLSS, so the transformer does not require an RTX of the latest to be able to enjoy.
