NVIDIA may use other factories for its GPUs besides TSMC, “if necessary”

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has spoken about the possibility of using other companies to manufacture the company’s GPUs and other chips. The AI ​​accelerator leader is currently working with TSMC, but he does not rule out the possibility of expanding partnerships “if necessary.”

The speech came during an event hosted by Goldman Sachs bank. The same one where Lisa Su spoke about AMD being a data center-focused company now. During her participation in the conference, Huang said:

“We work with them (TSMC) because they are great, but if necessary, of course we can always bring in others (companies).”

South Korean newspaper The Korea Herald has already interpreted the CEO’s speech as an indication of Samsung’s chances of starting to manufacture GPUs for NVIDIA. The executive did not say which companies could replace TSMC, but Samsung being the second largest chipmaker makes it a good candidate for speculators.

The possibility, however, does not seem so close to becoming a reality. In the same speech, Huang highly praised TSMC’s capabilities:

“We’re manufacturing at TSMC because they’re the best in the world, and they’re the best not by a small margin, they’re the best in the world by an incredible margin.” The NVIDIA chief stressed that his statement was to explain that they don’t intend to stop meeting demand for their products. “In the event of anything happening, we should be able to pick up and manufacture elsewhere.”

Companies line up to manufacture for NVIDIA

As the leader of the AI ​​accelerator market, one of the hottest in the world, NVIDIA should have no problem finding other partners to manufacture its chips if necessary. While there is speculation about Samsung as a possibility, it is interesting to remember that Intel also wanted a slice of this pie, according to rumors.
