It has long been reported that the high demand for memory components has caused a saturation of the manufacturing capacity of the world’s main DRAM producers. Now we have rumors that the problem may have reached the point of making NVIDIA cancel its RTX 50 SUPER line, the refresh of its Blackwell GPUs aimed at the home segment.

The currently available RTX 50 uses 2GB GDDR7 modules. The RTX 50 SUPER refresh, in turn, would move to 3GB GDDR7 modules, with this as its main differentiator to offer more capacity on each video card. So that’s why the cards could end up not being released at all.

The information is not official and should be treated as rumor. It comes from the Uniko’s Hardware account, which has a good record of getting leaks right. They say there is a “crazy shortage” of 3GB GDDR7 modules and, not only that, but also a low supply of 2GB modules, which should result in the price of the current RTX 50 increasing soon.

Can NVIDIA really give up on the RTX 50 SUPER?

It would be a big surprise if NVIDIA didn’t offer a SUPER refresh of its GPUs this generation, but there are reasons to believe in this possibility.

In response to comments on his original post talking about the subject, the Uniko’s Hardware account mentions that, in a scenario of scarcity, NVIDIA wants to direct the 3GB GDDR7 components it can to the production of the RTX 5090 for notebooks and RTX 6000 PRO Blackwell units.

Additionally, the desktop RTX 5080 and 5090 have no direct competitors, while NVIDIA’s entry-level and mid-range options are well ahead of their rivals in the latest Steam surveys.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the company never actually confirmed the RTX 50 SUPER. The cards appeared in several leaks, in addition to being expected because GPUs from previous generations had SUPER versions, but the company could simply not launch the new products without even needing to say that there was a “cancellation”.
