NVIDIA may bring the RTX 3060 back, due to the memory crisis

NVIDIA, which became the most valuable company in the world thanks to AI hype, is reportedly considering bringing the RTX 3060 back, due to the memory crisis caused by AI hype. The information is not yet official, so it should be treated as a rumor.

The possible leak comes from insider hongxing2020, who also says that the RTX 3060 could make its return as early as the first quarter of 2026. At least this indicates that it won’t take long for us to confirm, or deny, the rumor.

Unfortunately, however, we don’t have details on which specific models of the card could return. Originally launched in February 2021, the RTX 3060 has 8GB and 12GB versions of GDDR6 memory. Furthermore, as usual, we also had the RTX 3060 Ti arriving later.

Interestingly, this was one of the cards that faced the peak of cryptocurrency mining popularity, so the 3060 also has a variant called LHR (Lite Hash Rate), designed to be less attractive to miners and not disappear from stocks so quickly.

RTX 3060 remains Steam’s most popular card

Steam’s hardware survey is published every month and the RTX 3060 consistently ranks at the top of the most used GPUs in gamers’ machines. The card was not ahead in every month of 2025, but it certainly maintained its leadership more times, and even ended the year well ahead of the others, in percentage of use.

Therefore, it makes sense that this would be the model that NVIDIA would choose to “resurrect” to still be able to manufacture new products while companies fight for memory components in an increasingly scarce market.
