NVIDIA updated its “Chat with RTX“, launched in February 2024, and the software now arrives as “ChatRTX” with several new features for users – ensuring greater enjoyment of the experience with artificial intelligence on RTX GPUs.
According to the company, you will be able to carry out your own LLM training locally – presenting files and documents from your computer and asking questions so that it absorbs the content. They point out that this guarantees faster performance than cloud-based software such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT.
Another important point presented by NVIDIA is that, with the app running locally, all your data will be kept “private” – as opposed to what we see in cloud apps. It claims that ChatRTX can read several file formats, including txt, pdf, doc/docx, jpg, png, gif and xml.
ChatRTX also supports speech recognition feature, allowing the user to use the microphone to ask the chatbot questions in several different languages. The feature can also be used to organize your files, such as requesting images from your folder with a specific pattern.
For example, you can ask NVIDIA ChatRTX to search for photos of you at the beach and it will search for all of them with this requirement. It is similar to Windows search, but identifying the elements that are present in the image and not just using the file name. The technology used is called CLIP (contrastive language-image pre-training).

NVIDIA’s ChatRTX also has updated models such as the Mistral 7B and Llama 2, as well as new ones on the platform – such as Gemma, from Google and ChatGLM3 – this one with support for English and Chinese. It has not been revealed whether more will be added to the system in the future.
One of the main complaints about the application is that it focuses on one issue at a time. For example, if you asked for photos of yourself at the beach, there is no way to refine this search with “I want images of me in a yellow blouse” within the previous one. Each one will present its own results and you should move on to another unrelated one.
It is obvious that NVIDIA must refine ChatRTX later, bringing new features and fixing these “details”. Either way, you can download the app for free and try it out – requiring just 11.6GB of storage.
