NVIDIA is gearing up to launch the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs, the first in its “Blackwell” line of graphics cards. Sources close to Benchlife have revealed that the manufacturer plans to finalize the design specifications for the two later this September.
Additionally, it is described that they are also producing “D” variants for both hardware, aimed at the Chinese market with adjustments to meet export regulations imposed by the United States.
With the finalization of design specs happening soon, it’s possible that NVIDIA is actually targeting CES 2025 to reveal its GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs – launching both during the event.
Rumors suggest that the RTX 5090 will have a power consumption of 550W – a significant increase of 22% compared to that seen in the RTX 4090 version. The RTX 5080 is expected to consume 350W – a jump of 9.3%, a little more modest compared to the current RTX 4080.
NVIDIA is expected to bring a GeForce RTX 5090 with 24,576 CUDA cores and use GDDR7 memory with a 512-bit bus. The RTX 5080 may come with 10,752 CUDA cores and use GDDR7 memory with a 256-bit bus. This information remains to be confirmed by the manufacturer, something that should happen in the coming months.

Changes at NVIDIA
With the launch of its new products soon, NVIDIA is expected to make changes to its production line – prioritizing the manufacturing of the next GPUs.
Rumors suggest that one of those impacted will be the GeForce RTX 4090D version, which should have its line interrupted and discontinued from December 2024. It is said that the manufacturer will only supply the RTX 5090D and RTX 5080D versions to China.
Everything converges at CES 2025
Even though NVIDIA is prioritizing the announcement of its GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs for CES 2025, it probably won’t be the only one saving its upcoming graphics card solutions for the event.
AMD may also take advantage of its presence there to reveal the Radeon RX 8000 GPUs, something that has been eagerly awaited by enthusiasts. It is worth noting that Intel, so far, has not revealed its Arc Battlemage graphics cards for desktop – which may also be revealed next January.
