The powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU is set to be discontinued soon, according to an insider on Board Channels. The unofficial information on the forum says that the top-of-the-line Ada Lovelace GPU will begin its phase-out in October to make way for the RTX 5090.
The GeForce RTX 4090 chip production shutdown would begin when the GPU turns two years old, as it was launched in October 2022. In addition to the high-end GPU, the Chinese version, RTX 4090D, will also be shut down to make way for its equivalent successor.
With the discontinuation, stores are expected to start having fewer models available as early as October, with availability becoming scarcer starting in November. This lower stock after this period could lead to an increase in the price of the GPU and its Chinese variant.
Other RTX 40 GPUs discontinued besides the RTX 4090
The GeForce RTX 4090 isn’t the first Ada Lovelace GPU to be discontinued. Back in January, ahead of the launch of the RTX 40 SUPER GPUs, NVIDIA announced the end of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti. Rumors at the time suggested that production would have already begun at the end of last year.
In Brazil, it is still possible to find the two discontinued Ada Lovelace GPUs eight months later, although in few available models. The demand for the RTX 4090 is different, as it is highly requested by data centers and companies that work with AI, so it is not possible to guarantee that availability after the closure will be the same.
Regarding the GeForce RTX 5090, rumors indicate that it, and the RTX 5080, have already entered the final stages of production. The final specifications may already be finalized this September. In addition, it is described that they are also producing “D” variants for both chips, reinforcing the new rumor.
The top-of-the-line NVIDIA Blackwell GPU has already been mentioned by power supply manufacturers, such as Cooler Master, which has released a new power supply already prepared for the video card. There are other rumors that point to the use of GDDR7 memory and between 50 and 70% higher performance over the RTX 4090.
The expectation is that the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs will arrive at the end of this year, when the RTX 4090 is already at the end of its availability, if we consider the rumor presented here.
