NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU boxes do not report GDDR6 memory usage

The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs with GDDR6 memory are coming, but the hardware boxes from companies like Palit, ZOTAC and Gainward make their launch worrying: they don’t make it clear that the models don’t use GDDR6X modules – which can cause a lot of confusion among consumers.

Even though the manufacturer has announced that the performance is similar, we must warn that it is the public’s right to know exactly what type of product they are buying – this in all territories. However, this lack of information leaves it unclear whether you are purchasing the version with GDDR6X memory with 21 Gbps or GDDR6 with 20 Gbps.

Some companies make it clear on their boxes which memory model their GPU has, but in the case of Palit, ZOTAC and Gainward – the first to announce the new variant of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card – it was decided not to expose this detail.

Additionally, on each of these NVIDIA commercial partners’ pages, the variants are located in the same category as the other GeForce RTX 4070s – indicating that they are treating it as the same GPU, even with a different type of memory.

So far, only eight NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card models with GDDR6 memory have been officially released by companies such as Palit, ZOTAC and Gainward. It has not been revealed whether there will be changes to the standard of the boxes to expose this information before their launch or whether the public will have to pay extra attention to them.

It is important to note that NVIDIA has already defined that it will continue producing the GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6X memory alongside these new variants – which may further increase the confusion, as it is not just a replacement of models but two of them being sold simultaneously to the public.

Before purchasing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, it is recommended to pay attention to the boxes and also take a look at the product website – checking whether the version uses GDDR6 or GDDR6X memory. Even if they have different memory models, in theory their performance, design and price will be the same, which can be confusing.
