We have known for a long time that NVIDIA and AMD are preparing to present their new generations of GPUs at the beginning of next year. A new rumor, however, claims that the initial stock volume of these video cards should be much higher than usual, due to the change of presidents in the USA.

President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House on January 20, bringing with him the promise of greatly increasing taxes on products that are made outside the United States. And the new fees will be especially aggressive on items coming from China.

Since GPUs are mostly assembled in the Asian country, both NVIDIA and AMD would be rushing to secure their stocks before this likely price rise. According to information from the Ctee website, in Taiwan, AIB partners have greatly increased their production of next generation boards, at the request of their manufacturers.

The measure would be taken to guarantee a better profit margin on the initial stock of these video cards. Thus, it is likely that the tax will not be completely reversed to the consumer and, with companies absorbing some of the blow, NVIDIA and AMD will receive less profit for each unit sold after the tariffs are implemented.

NVIDIA and AMD could face 60% tax on their new cards

The concern of owners of GeForce and Radeon cards seems justified. According to information from WCCFTech, Trump’s proposal for new tariffs foresees a 10% tax on products from other countries, while for China specifically the rate could reach 60%.

Therefore, analysts predict increases of around 40% in the final product for consumers. It is a considerable impact both for AMD, which intends to target the intermediate segment, and for NVIDIA, which intends to offer models in all price ranges.

Making an estimate as an example, WCCFTech estimates the price of US$ 1,799 for the RTX 5090. Based on this value, a 40% increase could take the value of the card to US$ 2,500, which amounts to almost R$ 15,500 in price current.
