Notebook with RTX 5080 has only 10% to 15% less performance than the RTX 5090 version

The notebooks equipped with the Mobile versions of the RTX 5080 and 5090 have started to arrive last week, so now we already have a very useful comparison among the GPUs. Notebookchek staff received similar settings devices, with the video card as its only difference, and showed that the RTX 5080 is only 10% to 15% behind the RTX 5090 in performance.

The tested models were the Schenker Neo 16 a25, both equipped with a Ryzen 9 9955hx as a processor. The site has performed different synthetic tests on 3dmark and some in popular and demanding hardware games. In a few cases the difference is below 10% or above 15%, but the average is between these numbers.

“The relative small performance drop between the two enthusiastic GPus means that it may be worth setting notebooks with RTX 5080 instead of RTX 5090 to save hundreds of dollars, or for better performance per dollar,” says the site.

An interesting note that Notebookcheck points out is that the average performance difference between RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 for notebooks remains regardless of DLSS. That is, activating or disabled the feature makes no difference, because the performance gain is proportionally the same in both GPUS.

As mentioned by Notebookcheck, devices with RTX 5080 offer more performance per dollar than models with RTX 5090.

Speaking specifically about the Schenker Neo 16 used in the analysis, it is a 20% price difference between the models, which represents € 855 (R $ 5,247).
