Nokia announced this Tuesday (28/10) that it will receive an investment of US$ 1 billion (around R$ 5.3 billion, in direct conversion) from Nvidia. The Finnish manufacturer’s shares rose 25%, but reached 28% shortly after the agreement was announced.
The investment will be made via the issuance of more than 166 million new shares, which will be acquired by Nvidia at US$6.01 each. Nokia intends to use the resources to accelerate artificial intelligence and connectivity projects.
According to the statement, in addition to the financial contribution, the companies signed a partnership to develop a new technology for 6G. Nokia will adapt its 5G and 6G software to run on Nvidia chips, while both will collaborate on network solutions focused on artificial intelligence.
The chip company will also be allowed to incorporate Nokia’s technology into its future AI infrastructure plans. Currently, the Finnish company, which was once the market leader with its old cell phones, is focused on supplying 5G equipment to telecommunications operators.
In July, we reported here on Technoblog that the brand could return to the smartphone market, and was already looking for new partners for “large-scale” production. The current licensing agreement with HMD Global, responsible for the devices, ends in 2026.
In the same month, it is worth remembering, Nvidia became the first publicly traded company to reach US$4 trillion in market value.
