Nintendo confirmed last Friday (16) that Switch 2 will not be supported by variable update rate technology (VRR) in its dock mode. According to the company, this is a resource that will be offered exclusively for those who play the device in a portable way.

With this, the company rectifies incorrect information released by itself in early April. In introducing the new hardware to the world, the Japanese manufacturer said it would support the resource in all its modes of operation. However, shortly thereafter she began to remove references to the option of her official sites.

In a statement sent to the Nintendo Life website, the company confirmed that it really took steps to eliminate information from its pages. “Incorrect information was initially published on the Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we apologized for the error”Asked, the company did not say if VRR can reach the dock mode with a future update.

Nintendo Switch 2 lost an important appeal

What made VRR particularly important for Switch 2 is the fact that in some games the console promises performances of up to 120 fps. The technology is very useful for avoiding artifacts and the so -called “screen tearing”, which can happen when a game frames vary and do not adapt well to the TV update rate or monitor used.

On competing platforms, It is not uncommon for developers to take advantage of the resource to offer varied performance modes. In many cases, it is common to see titles that run at 40 FPS as an alternative to maintain visual quality and overcome the 30 FPS barrier, considered basic.

In practice, Nintendo’s decision can make some Switch 2 games more enjoyable to play in their portable mode than when the console is connected to a TV. The new device hits stores on June 5 this year, and there are reports that it will not be available for analysis.
