Rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 are ongoing, and the latest one says that the console is expected to arrive in the next fiscal year, starting in April 2025. According to sources from the Games Industry website, developers said they should not expect the new console to arrive this fiscal year.

The current fiscal year runs until March 31, 2025, so the launch would be in April or May 2025. Chris Dring, head of Games Industry, spoke to some developers who confirmed the information of this rumor.

“No developer I spoke to expects it to launch this fiscal year. In fact, they were told not to expect it to launch in the current fiscal year. Several people I spoke to expect it to launch in April or May, early next year, not late next year.“, these Dring.

Back in May of this year, Nintendo said it would unveil the Switch’s successor this fiscal year. That’s a pretty vague window, since it only goes up until March of next year. If they do decide to announce it near the end of that period, it makes more sense for the console to arrive in mid-May, the beginning of the next fiscal year.

Possible Nintendo Switch 2 performance

Among these various rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, some point to different levels of performance with the upcoming hardware. Months ago, a guess from Digital Foundry, based on the unofficial information available at the time, said that the performance would be close to the Xbox Series S.

The latest rumor from last week points to a performance level similar to what the Steam Deck offers. The information comes from an independent developer during a podcast on the Moore’s Law is Dead channel.

The Nintendo Switch is one of the most successful consoles of all time. We can’t imagine what would be causing the delay in the launch of its successor (and which led to the current console being the company’s longest-lasting), but the fact is that Big N has made a lot of money with it, in addition to the excellent sales of several of its games.

It’s already clear that the Switch’s tired hardware, based on NVIDIA Tegra, can no longer handle more elaborate games, not even with the help of more memory and overclocking on the CPU and GPU. So the Switch 2 could already arrive if it wants to.
