Even though the Nintendo Wii U generation ended some time ago, the manufacturer continued to offer technical assistance for its old device. However, this was only as long as they had parts and components available for repair – something that, according to the company itself, no longer exists.

This means that as of yesterday, July 3, they will no longer be making any repairs to the console released in 2012 or its peripherals. After shutting down the console’s servers and its digital store, the corporation is closing the doors to the support offered to the video game during the last twelve years.

It is important to mention that the news was shared by Nintendo’s Japanese division, which implies that there may be other technical support centers around the world that can carry out repairs on the console – depending on their stock, obviously.

Furthermore, “refurbished” models have always existed in technical support services – which combine functional parts from several “broken” consoles to assemble a usable one. For example, if a Wii U has a problem with the reader, the remaining parts can be reused to be inserted into another that is defective.

What Nintendo points out in its text is that, officially, they will no longer support the video game and that the user will have to find other methods if they want to keep the console or play their games. Whether it’s looking for alternatives in other support services, purchasing a Nintendo Switch or any other option that won’t go through them.

Nintendo has prepared for this

Considering that many Nintendo Switch games are actually ports of the old Wii U version, consumers lose little in terms of the experience that the old console provided. Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Pokkén Tournament, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and others are already on the current generation.

However, others were kept there and everything indicates that we won’t see it again. Or at least not in this generation. Among the fans’ requests are the games Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario: Color Splash and the HD versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker.
