Nintendo has announced its first external charger for Joy-Con controllers, the new accessory that will begin to be sold through official stores across the planet.
Usually, the user needs to connect them to the Nintendo Switch itself to charge its battery or resort to models manufactured by third parties. Now, on October 17, 2024 in the international market (no exact date for arrival in Brazil), the company’s own charging base will come.
In addition to the Joy-Con controls, Nintendo also points out through official images that it will allow recharging of the special NES controller – expanding its use and also compatibility with the manufacturer’s other products.
The accessory will connect via a USB cable to the Nintendo Switch dock, allowing up to two controllers to be charged simultaneously. A price for the new accessory has not yet been announced, but more details about it are expected to emerge closer to launch – usually shortly before pre-orders begin.

Nintendo and Joy-Con, seven years later
It is important to note that the announcement is somewhat “curious”, considering that the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con controllers were officially launched seven years ago and even the corporation has already assumed that there is a successor about to be announced.
Without getting into the merits of it being a “late” launch or not, having options to use is always positive and considering the player base that is growing more and more – 140 million units sold, according to its latest financial report – it is worth the effort to bring new features such as games and accessories for those who are just arriving.
Compatibility issue
Much of the rumor also suggests that all Nintendo Switch games and accessories – which possibly includes the Joy-Con – will be compatible with the new device that the manufacturer will bring to the market, possibly in 2025.
If this is achieved, them bringing an official product – without the user having to depend on other manufacturers – could be a positive thing for the current console and also for the future video game.
